The pastor at Whistler’s Our Lady of the Mountains Parish, Father Andrew L’Heureux, tucks his Mass kit into his backpack every year at this time. It adds another roughly two kilograms to the load the 48-year-old priest will have to carry over the three-day, 100-kilometre pilgrimage he plans to make in late July. That backpack will also contain 16 kilograms of other gear: butane stove, plenty of beef jerky, sleeping bag, hammock, tarp, water purifier, toiletries, and three litres of water.

Amal Khames illustrates the complex religious and cultural reality of the war-torn Holy Land. A Muslim woman, she worked with Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity in the Gaza Strip. Now, she is trying to rebuild her life in Port Coquitlam while helping her sisters, who remain stranded in Egypt after fleeing the Israeli-Palestinian war with five children. “My father is still there (in the southern Gaza Strip),” said Khames.

On Star Wars Day – May the Fourth—a Roman Catholic priest from the U.S. will be at Vancouver’s Hyatt Regency Hotel to talk, appropriately, about the war between good and evil and how Jesus, the bright morning star of Rev 22:16, has battled and overcome Satan. Already, close to 1,000 people have paid the $60 registration fee for the Rescue Live! conference, which is led by the Archdiocese of Detroit’s Father John Riccardo, founder of the ACTS XXIX ministry.
