The organisers had issued an update on Thursday morning raising doubts over the prospect of the session going ahead because of unsuitable conditions after heavy rain overnight. A further update in the afternoon noted an improvement in the weather and said the outlook for evening qualifying was ‘better than expected’.

The Honda Racing UK rider came flying out of the blocks with a speed of 130.897mph from a standing start before upping the ante on his second lap to 133.069mph (17 mins 00.733 secs). Harrison, who now lives in Laxey on the island, was 15 seconds up on Peter Hickman (8TEN Racing BMW), who managed 131.076mph after completing three laps on his Superbike machine. Hickman’s team-mate Davey Todd slotted into third on the leaderboard on Wednesday night (130.402mph).

Only the newcomers completed a lap on Monday before the rest of the schedule was called off due to wet weather. There was a question mark over Tuesday’s practice with more rain in the forecast, but although there were heavy showers earlier in the day, the weather improved and roads began to dry out. The Sidecar competitors went out first shortly after 6.30pm before it was the turn of the solo riders, who left the line on Glencrutchery Road in bright sunshine.

Further rain is expected on the island on Tuesday, but Clerk of the Course Gary Thompson is confident the weather will change for the better on Wednesday, issuing a “positive” update for the remainder of practice week. Roads are scheduled to close this evening for practice but it could be tomorrow before Michael Dunlop and his fellow TT contenders complete their first laps of the 2025 event in anger. Thompson said high pressure was set to bring improved weather from Wednesday.
