A new granite monument stands in the Old Georgetown Cemetery, on North Hamilton Street, as it was unveiled before a crowd Wednesday. Terry Thomas shared history of restoring the Old Georgetown Cemetery, a project that has been underway for eight years and still ongoing. Though he didn’t know where to start eight years ago, Thomas went right to work anyway, he said. “We made a decision to start cleaning this place up,” Thomas said.

The Creekers are on the rise. Starting out as a four-piece Bluegrass band just a few years ago, The Creekers have now grown and found a sound all their own, they said “Creeker-grass.” Band members are: Scott Sutton on banjo; Anna Blanton on fiddle; Jagger Bowling on bass; Ashton Bowling on cajon; Allen Hacker vocals and guitar; and Tanner Horton on vocals and guitar. Jam sessions in 2022 quickly turned a group of friends into a band, Horton said.

Ward Hall, a Greek Revival mansion now operated under Ward Hall Preservation Foundation, was approved for a zone change last week as part of Georgetown/Scott County Planning Commission meeting June 12. Ward Hall changed from an A-1 (agricultural) zone to a C-1 (conservation) zone.

Georgetown now has a bourbon unique to itself. With the “Bourbon Genesis” launch Friday, June 13, bourbon enthusiasts and aficionados lined downtown waiting to get their hands on a bottle of Elijah Craig “Bourbon Genesis” Single Barrel. Bourbon Genesis is more than a bottle of bourbon for Georgetown/Scott County Tourism. Bourbon Genesis is “a new campaign inviting bourbon enthusiasts and history lovers to discover the birthplace of America’s native spirit,” according to a press release.
