Residents are taking strides toward safer, more independent lives this winter thanks to NHS-approved slipper swap projects. The slipper swap projects provide a practical solution for a serious issue: falls resulted in around 10,000 emergency hospital admissions in mid and south Essex last year, averaging over 700 admissions monthly for older residents. One in three adults over 65 and half of those over 80 experience at least one fall annually.

A new campaign launching today from NHS Mid and South Essex is raising awareness of different ways residents can access care and support, helping them get quicker, easier access to the local healthcare information and services they need. With an average of 557,000 appointments taking place in local GP practices every month, healthcare teams are providing more appointments year on year.

NHS Mid and South Essex has joined forces with a Southend homeless healthcare organisation to vaccinate rough sleepers and sofa surfers against flu and COVID-19. Local GP, Dr Haroon Siddique, started Southend Integrated Homeless Healthcare (SIHH) in 2020 with Prescribing Paramedic Victoria Chana, as a way to vaccinate the homeless against flu and COVID-19.
