The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has published a Google patent application for a smartglasses design that seeks to reduce the amount of light lost from the microdisplay. The Apple IP news blog Patently Apple, which shared the news, described the innovative smartglasses design as centring around a curved thin see-through lightguide with large eyebox.

International Data Corporation (IDC) has found that over 70 percent of global shipments of AR and VR headsets can be attributed to Meta for the third quarter of 2024. The volume of global shipments increased by 12.8 percent mostly off the strength of Meta’s performance, according to the latest information from global market data provider.

Microsoft has switched Skype to a monthly subscription-based model instead of its credit-based system. Users are now no longer able to purchase new Skype credit and money already loaded onto an account must be used at least once every six months in order to remain active. The news was not officially announced. Instead, it was inadvertently uncovered when a volunteer moderator on a Microsoft forum informed a user who couldn’t top-up their credit.
