    Two codefendants charged with a slew of drug-related felonies went before Conasauga Judicial Circuit Judge Scott Minter in Whitfield Superior Court via videoconference on Friday, April 5, for a bond hearing. Judge Minter ultimately set bond at $100,000 for Cheryl Lyn Betterton, 42. He declined to set bond at all for Curtis Lamar Betterton, also 42.

    Conasauga Judicial Circuit Judge Scott Minter denied a request to set bond for a 27-year-old man charged with alleged gang-related offenses in Whitfield Superior Court on Friday, April 5. According to Whitfield County Jail records, defendant Matthew Alexander Maher was arrested on March 20 and charged with three offenses — one count of criminal trespass and two counts of criminal gang activity participation.

    Murray County and Whitfield County are receiving federal funding via the Department of Homeland Security and Federal Emergency Management Agency to supplement programs in both communities. Whitfield is expected to receive $38,511 in phase 41 funding under the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program while Murray is expected to receive $14,483.
