WITH Victorians heading outdoors this summer, Ambulance Victoria’s (AV) Wilderness Response paramedics are prepared for any emergencies in remote and wilderness areas across the state. AV’s team of more than 120 specially trained wilderness paramedics are sent to some of Victoria’s most secluded and treacherous alpine or bush areas to help missing or injured people, 4WD off-road incidents or mountain bike falls, or cases where air ambulance is unable to reach a patient.

CRIME Stoppers Victoria and Victoria Police are urging the community to share footage of high-risk driving in a new campaign to crack down on motorists behaving badly. The “See It. Share It.” road safety initiative uses de-identified footage to demonstrate dangerous driving behaviour, and encourage Victorians to submit any footage they capture to Crime Stoppers.

Women’s Health and Wellbeing Barwon South West has joined a coalition of groups calling for the statewide expansion of a program that addresses violence against women with disabilities. The Margins to the Mainstream (M2M) project was developed in response to the prevalence and seriousness of violence against women with disabilities. It extended from the years of collaborative work undertaken by the Together For Equality and Respect partnership on the primary prevention of violence against women.

DEAKIN University has received the largest single bequest in its history. Last month, the university – which has campuses on the Geelong Waterfront and in Waurn Ponds – announced the estate of the late Dr Lewis and Libby Hughes had provided a gift of $1.64 million. This will fund research stipends of more than $25,000 for three years for PhD and post-doctoral education students, as well as tuition fees for international students and staff salaries.
