No machine can do the work of one extraordinary man.”An interesting theory, but one that requires modern-day context. Hubbard died in 1915, when machine innovation primarily made manual tasks easier and more efficient. Machines certainly didn’t do your thinking for you. Artificial intelligence (AI), as the cliché goes, has been something of a game changer.

Almost three-quarters of brokers report that their workload has actually increased following lenders’ IT upgrades. The poll of 500 advisers by cloud-based mortgage software provider Finova found that 73% say they are doing more admin since lenders have updated their platforms. The findings may reflect slower processing times while brokers and support staff get to grips with new software, but also suggest that more could be done to improve workflow.

The Chancellor has confirmed she will release an extra £500m to build up to 5,000 social homes ahead of Wednesday’s Budget, with more homes to come alongside “protections” for the country’s social housing stock.
