    If you’ve read any of Bernard Cooper’s books, you know about the care with which he constructs his sentences, how he gives each detail its own breathing room. (If not, Maps to Anywhere [1990] and his 2006 memoir The Bill from My Father are especially recommended.) Cooper has also been painting for 10 years now, and his debut exhibition, “An Insomniac’s Guide to the Night,” at Gattopardo suggests the public entrée of a doubly gifted rarity, along the lines of William Blake or Louise Brooks.

    The presumption that a child born of a married couple is the child of that couple is one of the oldest and strongest presumptions in the American common law tradition. Due to various and substantial societal changes in recent decades, the presumption has slowly been modified to reflect those changes the same. In the recent matter of Sitler v. Jones, 2024 Pa.Super. 38 (2024), the Pennsylvania Superior Court had another opportunity to test the limits of the presumption.

    When I stepped into Jim Isermann’s spectacular show “Wrapture” presented by the Miles McEnery Gallery and the Pacific Design Center, my first thought was, “It’s 1967 again,” — and I don’t mean in a self-conscious, retro-chic way. Isermann’s super-saturated bright colors and pulsating geometric shapes took me right back to those glorious posters Victor Moscoso designed in San Francisco for the Matrix club that year.
