    Four children are among several dozen people injured in Liverpool as a day of joy for the city turned into one of unforgettable horror. Yesterday afternoon, hundreds of thousands of Scousers had packed into the city to celebrate the victory of Liverpool FC in the Premier League.  The crowd sang You’ll Never Walk Alone and red smoke billowed into the air as the team waved down at their delighted fans. Around 6PM, a car drove into the crowd on Water Street and the celebration turned into a nightmare.

    Gardaí continue to question a man in connection to the death of Michael Gaine. The Kerry farmer went missing in March and late in April Gardaí announced they were now treating his disappearance as a homicide investigation. On Friday, human remains were discovered on Mr Gaine’s farm near Kenmare and a man was arrested on suspicion of murder on Sunday.  He is aged in his 50s and has been detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda Station in Kerry.

    Learner drivers should be allowed to drive unaccompanied, a member of the Oireachtas Transport Committee has argued. Until a person passes their driving test, it is only legal for them to drive while accompanied by a qualified driver who has had their licence for at least two-years. If a learner is stopped while driving unaccompanied by Gardaí, their car can be detained. On Newstalk Breakfast, Fianna Fáil’s Cathal Crowe said he thinks the current rules are not “practical” and need reform.
