    Providing people on low incomes a grant of €10,000 to buy an electric vehicle would “pay for itself” in the medium-term, the Climate Change Advisory Council has said. The council has recently published a review into the nation’s transport policy and recommended radical action in order to cut emissions.     The days of Dubliners leaving their waste out for collection in plastic bin bags will come to an end within the next two years, a spokesperson for the city council has promised. Although the vast majority of Irish households use bins to dispose of their waste, some parts of the capital’s inner city continue to use plastic bags. The reason for that is many small terraced houses and apartments lack the space for bins and have been exempted from the requirement to use them.

    Helen McEntee has said the controversial €9 million phone pouch scheme will be “transformation” for children. The money was allocated to the Department of Education in Budget 2025 as part of a Government plan to restrict children’s access to smartphones while at school. The funds will allow schools to buy pouches in which children will be made to safely store their phones during the school day.
