    The Taoiseach has paid tribute to Garda Kevin Flatley following his death on duty on Sunday afternoon. The father-of-two was struck by a motorcycle while carrying out a speed checkpoint in north Dublin. The motorcyclist, who is aged in his 30s, remains in a serious condition in Beaumont Hospital. On The Pat Kenny Show, Micheál Martin said everyone in Ireland was “numbed” by the news of his death. “Our deepest sympathies go to his wife, Una, and his lovely daughters, Aoife and Erin,” he said.

    The rise in EV sales is ‘not particularly good’ given recent improvements in price and choice, Ger Herbert has said. In 2023, the Government cut the subsidy for EVs from €5,000 per vehicle to €3,500. In the aftermath, sales plummeted as customers turned back toward petrol and diesel models. On The Pat Kenny Show, motoring expert Ger Herbert said much of the reason for the decline in EV sales was due to “mostly ill-informed”. “There’s a 25.5% increase since this time last year,” she said.

    The Chair of the Oireachtas Sports Committee has said the Camogie Association could face a grilling from TDs if they do not change their “completely archaic” rules on skorts. Over the weekend, players from Dublin and Killkenny arrived at the Leinster semi-final in shorts, instead of the mandatory skorts in a coordinated protest. After they were informed the match would have to be postponed, the players returned wearing skorts.

    The Government should use revenue from the sugar tax to “subsidise healthier foods”, one of the country’s leading obesity experts has suggested. A recent poll by the EY Future Consumer Index found that 72% of Irish shoppers want healthier, more sustainable products to be more affordable. On Newstalk Breakfast, HSE Obesity Lead Dr Donal O’Shea described it as a “very positive” figure and demonstrates conversations within society about healthy living and eating are “resonating”.

    The controversy about Kneecap’s statements at its performance is an “absolutely manufactured level of outrage”, the band’s manager has said. The band is currently under investigation by British police after footage emerged of them allegedly shouting, “The only good Tory is a dead Tory, kill your local MP” at one of their gigs. Another video seems to show them shouting, “Up Hamas, up Hezbollah” to a crowd.
