This was just about the purest definition of a team win you could find. And it put Albuquerque Academy’s baseball team on the verge of a district championship. Friday afternoon’s showdown against Valley was a prime opening for the Vikings — win at home, and they’d tie the Chargers for first place in District 6-4A with two weeks left in the regular season. kAmx?DE625[ p4256>J ;F>A65 @FE 62C=J[ 2?5 6:89E @7 E96 ?:?6 r92C86CD :? Apr. 17—The head boys basketball coach at Santa Fe Indian School, along with his brother, an assistant athletic director at SFIS, were killed in a car crash in northern New Mexico on Thursday morning. Jason Abeyta, 47, and Nathan Abeyta, 42, who are from San Juan Pueblo, died in the Rio Arriba County crash, as did a passenger in another vehicle. "Both were just great guys; they were perfect for their roles at Santa Fe Indian," said Zack Cole, the head boys basketball coach at Cleveland High School.

Here is a short profile of each inductee:• Larry “Jab” Williams (Class of 1973), an all-district, all-city and all-state lineman for the AHS football team. He also played on the school’s state runner-up team in 1973. He later played football at New Mexico State, and was a draftee of the Baltimore Colts.

In a month, they’ll be back at the University of New Mexico Track and Field Complex, chasing something bigger. But the Marilyn Sepulveda Meet of Champions was fertile ground for several of the state’s top athletes on Monday. “This is basically replicating state,” Santa Fe High sprinter Bryce Melton said. Melton, now fully healthy, swept the boys’ 100- and 200-meter dash finals. Eldorado’s Gianna Rahmer broke a record, impressively, in the 1,600 on a near perfect weather day at UNM.

I’ve got a story wrapping them up tonight/Wednesday.
