    UNLESS you’re really interested in parliamentary procedures and public scrutiny you may not be aware of the work of the Scottish Parliament’s Public Audit Committee, of which I am the deputy convener. It’s not the most glamorous job and rarely gets the headlines going, but it does provide me with the unique opportunity to question senior civil servants - the people who actually make things happen in the country.

    May the 4th has been and gone; I hope you had a good one. The month marches on and I’ve failed to write a timely preview of the books I’m hoping to read during May.
