Almost 60,000 UK workers will receive more than 7.4 million pounds (US$10,010,646) in back pay from more than 500 employers as the result of investigations into underpayments violating minimum wage laws, His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs said May 29. The affected employers also paid penalties of up to twice the amount of the underpayment, HMRC, which investigates wage-related complaints from workers, said in a news release. The investigations were completed from 2015-2022, HMRC said.

National Minimum Wage is A$948 per weekHourly value is A$24.95Australia’s National Minimum Wage and minimum wages specified in awards will increase by 3.5% July 1, the country’s Fair Work Commission said June 3. The increase results in a National Minimum Wage of A$948 (US$612.87) per week, up from A$915.90, or A$24.95 per hour, up from A$24.10, the commission said in its wage review.

An update to Canada’s payroll deductions formulas effective July 1 includes a decrease to the lowest federal tax rate and changes to rates and amounts in other jurisdictions, the Canada Revenue Agency said May 30. In the July 1 edition of Guide T4127, Payroll Deductions Formulas, the lowest federal income tax rate decreases to 14%, from 15%, the CRA said. The federal income tax brackets and other rates did not change.
