According to a survey from Pew Research Center, 55% of Americans pray daily. People pray to express gratitude, ask for help or direction, seek forgiveness, find comfort, and connect with God. What role does prayer play in your life? Prayer is the communications system that keeps me on track. Daily I gather with God, sharing my praises, fears, requests, and concerns. Much like the Psalmist, I find myself saying “Hear my voice when I call, O Lord; be merciful to me and answer me,” (Psalm 27:7 NIV).

NEWLAND — Before a packed Lower Commons area of family, friends, teammates and coaches, Avery High School senior track and field standout Abby Burleson signed a letter of intent to attend UNC-Wilmington, where she will continue her track and field career at the collegiate level. Burleson, the reigning state 1A champion in girls pole vault in both indoor and outdoor track, also competes on the Vikings’ relay team and cheerleading squad.
