Morgan County Track & Field Athletes Excel at Sectionals, Head to State

On Saturday, May 4, in Carnesville, The Morgan County Track and Field athletes took on competition from throughout the region and found themselves atop the podiums for their efforts. First place region champion in the 100m Dash, Dallas Dickerson, led the Bulldogs. “Dallas ran his personal best in the 100m and 200m,” Head Coach Kelan Fraise said. Dickerson bested his competition with times of 10.56 and 21.97 in the events, qualifying for the State Finals this weekend.

Morgan County Head Soccer Coach, Aaron Paul, has a team he has prepared for in the 10 years since he took over the program in 2014. Last week, a battle opened up at Bill Corry Stadium with the Bulldogs tied 2-2 at the half against Peach County. Brandon Lopez put 2 goals on the board, and Kentucky Outlaw and Korbin Hegwood solidified the win for Morgan County 4-2 in regulation. “I’m excited for our players,” Coach Paul said.

The Morgan County Lady Bulldogs Soccer Team fell to Savannah Country Day in penalty kicks after 2-2 regulation and overtime. The Morgan County Lady Bulldogs Soccer team boarded a charter bus, made possible by parent donors and the Upper90 Booster Club, at 10 a.m. last Tuesday. They were embarking on an epic journey that had less to do with miles, and more to do with the reason we all love sports and competition. The Lady Dogs started slow, nervous, timid and out of alignment with one another.

Morgan County Boys’ Soccer kicked off playoffs with an 8-1 win last Wednesday, April 17, against Dougherty at home. Korbin Hegwood’s hat trick led the team in goals. Head Coach Aaron Paul credited the depth of available players and weeks of focus and practice for the team’s position going into the next round of playoffs.
MCHS Girls Soccer takes out Crisp County, 10-0

Morgan County Girls Soccer took out Crisp County, 10-0, in just under 60 minutes on April 16. To claim their stake in the sweet sixteen, to be played Tuesday in Savannah against Savannah Country Day High School, Morgan County ran their first round playoff like a training session last Tuesday night. The Lady Dogs defeated their first round opponents 10-0. Campbell Stamps opened the game in under a minute with a rocket of a goal, setting the standard for a night of impressive finishing from the team.

Morgan County Tennis, led by Head Coach Conner Perry, took on Monroe of Albany at home on April 16-17 in back to back matches on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. The girls swept three lines in the following order:2nd doubles won first, then 1st doubles, with Mallory Martin closing it out for the win. Due to the long drive, the Monroe of Albany Coach forfeited the remaining matches to Morgan County.
MCHS Diamond Dogs fall to region rival

Morgan County Varsity Baseball out hit Harlem 8-6 on Wednesday, April 17, but still fell to their region rivals, 6-3. Harlem got in the board early with a homerun, a sacrifice fly and a double, each scoring one run. David Denton homered to left field, which helped the Morgan County Bulldogs tie up the game, 3-3, in the bottom of the first.

The Morgan County High School boys soccer program celebrated the last game of regulation season on April 4 with its 4th consecutive region win to secure the region title. The 6th region win since he took the helm as Morgan County’s Soccer Coach, and the fourth consecutive win since his three seniors joined the team as freshman, leaves Head Coach Aaron Paul a little lost for words. “It’s a big accomplishment. It’s really special,” he said.
Girls tennis takes region championship title for Morgan County High School

Our Morgan County Girls’ Tennis players waited out the rain to claim the region championship last Tuesday, April 2, in Augusta. First singles line, played by junior Mallory Martin, and first doubles, played by senior Erin Gresham and her partner junior Katie Davis, won their matches before the rain came in on the original match date, March 26.
