Anchor store with the name of anchor store Hobby Lobby. Natchez businessman Jimmy Smith and partners are redeveloping the shopping center and will spend approximately $40 million to do so. It will be the largest retail development in Natchez in many decades.

Published 9:57 am Friday, June 20, 2025 NATCHEZ — Private David Carter, born in 1843 in Jefferson County, made a visit to Co-Lin Community College in Natchez Thursday morning in the form of his great-great-grandson, Royal HIll Jr.Hill, who along with his wife, Lavada Hill, own Open Arms Tours, was on the first Juneteenth committee in Natchez and actually came up with the idea of celebrating Juneteenth in Natchez. Carter was a private in the Union Army during the Civil War.

Published 3:30 pm Wednesday, June 18, 2025 NATCHEZ — Natchez native and filmmaker Timothy Givens, who now lives in New York City, saw the “Natchez” documentary when it debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival recently. Director Suzannah Herbert was in Natchez in 2023 to make the “Natchez” film, which is described as challenging the American South’s unreconciled history. It won best documentary at Tribeca, as well as a number of other awards, such as best cinematography.

Published 2:45 pm Wednesday, June 18, 2025 NATCHEZ — The state fire marshal’s office has ruled the fire on Friday at Live Oak Nursery and Garden Center to be accidental. Officials from the fire marshal’s office were in Natchez Wednesday morning investigating the fire. “They found nothing to indicate arson,” said Natchez Fire Chief Robert Arrington.
