Azerbaijan Airlines Embraer E190 crashes in Aktau, Kazakhstan

An Azerbaijan Airlines Embraer E190 operating flight J28243 from Baku, Azerbaijan to Grozny, Russia, has crashed while approaching Aktau Airport in Kazakhstan during an attempted emergency landing. Initial reports state that some of the people onboard have survived. Prior to the crash, the aircraft squawked 7700, indicating some sort of general emergency, and flight trackers showed it flying erratically over the Caspian Sea.
Swiftair Boeing 737 crashes in Vilnius

A SwiftAir Boeing 737-400 registered as EC-MFE and operating a cargo flight for DHL from Leipzig, Germany, to Vilnius, Lithuania, has crashed into residential buildings on approach to Vilnius shortly before 5:30am local time. Preliminary reports state that one of the four people was killed, while the other three were injured. So far there have been no reports of any people on the ground being injured.
Azimuth Airlines Sukhoi Superjet catches fire on landing in Antalya

A Sukhoi Superjet registered as RA-89085 and operated by Russian airline Azimuth has caught fire after landing at Antalya Airport, Türkiye. Flight A45051 originated in Sochi and reportedly brought 79 passengers to Antalya, all of which were evacuated safely according to initial reports. Videos circulating online show the aircraft’s left engine on fire which quickly spread to other areas around the engine. It is currently unknown what caused the fire.
VoePass ATR72 crashes near Sao Paulo

Photo: © Arthur Araújo BASVA VoePass ATR72-500, registered as PS-VPB and operating a domestic flight from Cascavel to Sao Paulo, has crashed into a residential area near Sao Paulo. There is currently no information on how many people were on board flight 2Z2283 when it crashed or whether anyone survived. Videos circulating online show the aircraft spinning towards the ground, others show the wreckage engulfed in flames.
Saurya Airlines CRJ-200 crashes in Kathmandu

A Bombardier CRJ-200, registered as 9N-AME and operated by Saurya Airlines, crashed moments after taking off from Kathmandu on a flight bound for Pokhara. According to preliminary reports, 18 of the 19 people on board the aircraft have died in the crash and one of the pilots was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. Videos circulating online show the aircraft departing from Kathmandu’s runway 02 in a northernly direction when its right wing suddenly dropped down.
AirBaltic adds to Airbus A220 order

Latvian national airline AirBaltic signed a deal for an additional 30 Airbus A220-300 aircraft at the Dubai Air Show. The carrier also secured options for a further 20 of the type. In Airbus first deal at this year’s show, AirBaltic is adding to its order book for 50 A220 aircraft and eventually plans to operate 100 of the type by 2030. The airline was the launch customer of the larger A220-300, then CS300, back in 2016 and now operates 44 aircraft of the type.
FlyDubai orders first Boeing 787 Dreamliner

Dubai-based regional airline and Emirates’ sister airline flyDubai announced a firm order for its first ever wide body aircraft during the Dubai Air Show. The deal includes 30 Boeing 787-9 aircraft with no delivery timeline announced.

Hungarian ultra-lowcost carrier Wizz Air ordered a further 75 Airbus A321neo from the European manufacturer Airbus. The Indigo Partners subsidiary thus increases its orderbook with Airbus to 434 A321neo aircraft, some 80 of which have already been delivered to Wizz Air or its subsidiaries in Malta and Abu Dhabi. Neither Wizz Air nor Airbus specified a delivery timeline, but it is likely that some will be used as replacements of older aircraft.

Viva Aerobus signs for 90 more Airbus A321neo

Mexican ultra-low-cost carrier Viva Aerobus and European manufacturer Airbus have reached an agreement for the purchase of an additional 90 A321neo aircraft. Once the Memorandum of Understanding is firmed up, planes will start to get delivered to the airline from 2027 onwards. At the same time, Viva Aerobus also announced that it would keep Pratt&Whitney as its engine supplier for the top up order.
