Roughly 70 people and at least one dog gathered at the Pinehurst Park bandshell Wednesday evening to celebrate the official debut of Cloquet's newest public art, a mural called "The Good We Were Given."Artist Giizh (Sarah) Agaton Howes designed and painted - with help from family and community members - the mural over the past several months. She told the crowd it was an honor "to adorn this space" at Pinehurst. "If you grow up in this community, this is like a part of your childhood," she said.

Growing up, director Amanda Olsen was steeped in the story of Moses growing up in a pharoah's household, only to lead the Jews out of Egypt and slavery in dramatic fashion, as told in the Bible, Cecil B. DeMille's "The Ten Commandments" starring Charlton Heston, and Dreamworks' "The Prince of Egypt."So when she discovered the Dreamworks musical was finally available for local theater groups like New Wine in Cloquet, she thought she was hallucinating.

The question of where to allow full-strength cannabis sales stymied the Cloquet City Council Tuesday night. At issue was the recommendation by the Cloquet planning commission regarding the soon-to-be-legal sale and manufacture/growth of cannabis and where the city wants to allow such businesses to exist. Retail sales have been the sticking point. Councilors were unable to reach agreement, ending the meeting split equally: men on one side, women on the other. It wasn't a hasty decision.

Maybe don't bring small children to the newest County Seat Theater production, "Making Sweet Tea and Other Secrets" by Paul Elliott. Bring teenagers, dear friends, parents - people with whom you can enjoy thoughtful and occasionally challenging conversation. Sweet tea has a role, but it isn't the point of this drama.
