In recent years, Pew Research Center has been thinking more intentionally about our website’s accessibility and how we can improve it. A key component of this effort involves pushing our writers and researchers to think about alt text for the many charts we publish – and to do so from the very beginning of the editorial process. Alt text, or alternative text, is the descriptive text that is packaged with online images to help people with visual impairments.

Pew Research Center’s international surveys have typically not given respondents the explicit option to say that they don’t know the answer to a particular question. In surveys conducted face-to-face or by phone, we’ve instead allowed respondents to voluntarily skip questions as they see fit. Similarly, in self-administered surveys conducted online, respondents can skip questions by selecting “Next page” and moving on.

One reason artificial intelligence will penetrate more deeply into some sectors of the U.S. economy than others is that the mix of jobs varies across industries. We found in our analysis that about half of workers (52%) in the professional, scientific and technical services sector face a high degree of exposure to AI, more than double the rate for workers overall. Exposure is also much greater than average for workers in finance, insurance and real estate (37%) and public administration (36%).

Although artificial intelligence may appear to be everywhere all at once, workers overall are more likely to be in jobs that are the least exposed to AI than the most exposed. In 2022, nearly one-in-four U.S. workers (23%) were employed in the least exposed jobs, compared with one-in-five workers (19%) in the most exposed jobs, our analysis found. This difference applies across most groups of workers, arising from differences in the types of jobs they do.

In about half of the countries surveyed, majorities indicate having confidence in Zelenskyy (also spelled Zelensky).
