They were surprised to find Sinwar — and the best news is that there were no hostages near enough to be harmed. As we reflect on the Allied landing at Normandy, we should also remember that in addition to the bravery of ground troops, Allied forces won because of the presence of air cover. Ukraine currently has air cover in only one city — Kyiv. It could soon lose its second-largest city, Kharkiv, because it can’t defend against replenished Russian forces without air cover.

Now it’s next week, more than two months after the Senate Ukraine aid bill passed 70-29, with 22 Republican votes. The time for action was months ago. Every day Johnson delays means more Ukrainians die, and every Ukrainian death brings Russian President Vladimir Putin closer to NATO’s doorstep and American troops closer to combat in Europe.
