Councilman Rich Baggstrom said he will be retiring and moving out of state to be closer to his grandchildren. The council will bid farewell to Baggstrom at its Tuesday, Jun 17, meeting. LEBANON TWP. – The Township Committee adopted a 2025 salary ordinance and resolutions setting specific salaries during its Wednesday, June 4, meeting. The largest salaries adopted are those of the road supervisor, $126,975.30; township clerk, $101,795.37, and police chief, $161,710. Other road employee salaries range from $53,754.74 to $91,771.99. FAIRTON — New Jersey is a peninsula state, surrounded by water except for the 32-mile land border with New York. Most of that water, except for the Delaware River, is salty. Even the Hudson “River” is actually a tidal estuary by the time it reaches New Jersey. This means much of the land right on the water is salt marsh. In North Jersey, the most famous salt marsh is the Hackensack Meadlowlands which has largely been destroyed by development: the racetrack, hockey rink, stadium and a giant mall.

This spring rather than using the market pickup location, the farm management set up a wagon just off the access road to take advantage of a bright Saturday morning. The change proved to be successful in several ways. As well as bringing in customers for the variety of vegetables: potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, spinach, turnips, garlic.

RINGOES — The Unionville Winery was abuzz with conversation on Friday evening, April 4. The event was a wine-tasting, but not only a wine tasting. It was a Women’s Leadership event organized by the state Farm Bureau leadership committee. Chair Danielle Wainwright, who farms in Burlington County, and Vice-Chair Darcy Perehings of Sweet Valley Farm in Ringoes, have been setting up leadership events from the North Central to South Central region of the state.

BRIDGEWATER — The finale to the Farmer Resource Fair at the Ted Blum 4-H Center here in Somerset County was a pesticide safety update by Kate Brown, county agriculture agent. The presentation was eligible for continuing education credit for the farmers present, she explained and also gives farmers the opportunity to reduce their risk of harm from the pesticides. She described the two types of certification, for private or commercial use.
Tewksbury adopts $10.8 million budget

TEWKSBURY TWP. – The Tewksbury Township Committee adopted a $10,821,861.58 budget at its Tuesday, April 22, meeting, increasing taxes approximately $274.03 for the owner of a home at the average assessed value. The total budget is 6.44 percent more than it was in 2024, and the tax rate is 6.69 percent more than 2024. The budget includes $6,701,241.56 to be raised from from municipal taxes, an increase from $6,295,652.04 in 2024.
