Unexpected blessings. Random acts of kindness. Since 1995, the U.S. has celebrated a national Random Acts of Kindness Day on Feb. 17. Today, churches are finding that acts of kindness need not be random at all, but rather, intentional acts to share the love of Christ.

LOS ANGELES—January’s devastating wildfires in Southern California prompted a massive response from recovery and disaster relief agencies, including Southern Baptist Disaster Relief. SBTC DR, the disaster arm of the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention, answered the call, sending feeding and chaplaincy volunteers to Los Angeles County at the request of California Baptist DR. And they may go back.

IRVING—It was a gathering of friends with a purpose: celebrating 100 years of the Cooperative Program, the Southern Baptist Convention’s funding mechanism supported by the generous contributions of its congregations. In between, the 170 women who gathered in the upstairs ballroom at the Irving Convention Center worshipped God and learned to embrace the “power of wonder” during the women’s session of the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention’s annual Empower Conference. Those expecting speaker and author Marian Jordan Ellis to immediately launch into her keynote topic may have been surprised by her opening request.
