As of January 1, 2024, a new income tax exemption threshold was implemented, raising the threshold from $26,000 to $29,000. This change means that workers earning less than $29,000 annually will no longer be required to pay income tax. As a result, over 3000 employees earning below this limit will benefit from making income tax payments, which is a significant advantage for those within this income.

The island community continues to assist the 12 families who lost everything in the December 29th fire south of San Pedro Town. On Friday, January 10th, San Pedro Town Council members, the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO), the Area Representative Honorable Andre Perez, and volunteers delivered humanitarian aid to the victims. Mayor Gualberto ‘Wally’ Nuñez and Perez met on the ground with those starting again.

The Island League Football Tournament crowned a new champion at the Ambergris Stadium on Saturday, January 11th. The final match of the local tournament had both teams and their fans on edge, as the regulation 90 minutes were not enough to determine a winner. It took an additional 30 minutes of overtime and penalty kicks for Sharks FC to secure a hard-fought victory over Sea Bulls FC. The championship match began at 7:30PM in a stadium filled with passionate supporters for both teams.

He was born on January 15, 1919, and his impact on the history of Belize is significant. Price served twice as the head of government from 1961 to 1984 and again from 1989 to 1993. He was the First Minister and Premier under British rule until Belize’s independence in 1981, and he became the nation’s first prime minister following that independence.

In 2024, Belize’s tourism sector has seen remarkable growth, making it a historic year for the industry. The Belize Tourism Board (BTB) reported that overnight visitor arrivals reached 562,405, exceeding pre-pandemic levels by 11.8% compared to 2019, the previous peak year for tourism in the country.
