Spring is finally here, the birds are back and it’s time for the bees to come out of hibernation, and some of them are just looking for a little peace and quiet. Contrary to popular knowledge, honeybees don’t all live in hives by the thousands. Most are shown in mass swarms in their hives, which can house anywhere from 20,000 to 80,000 bees, but surprisingly there is a population of solitary bees who would rather live alone than in a colony.

It’s not every day you get the chance to hear a real cowboy sing original country western tunes, but Bob Bovee will perform from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at the Adamant Community Club. “Have you heard those real old recordings of a cowboy singing a traditional song?” Cowboy Magazine said. “The songs have an ‘old’ quality about them, and the singers’ voices seem to belong to a (cowboy) just in from off the trail. Bob Bovee … renders these songs with authenticity and affection.

What do you get when you fill a gym big enough for 1,000 kids full of bouncy houses, cotton candy and snow cones? The answer is Bounce-a-Palooza, presented by Whirlie’s World and the Rutland Recreation and Parks Department. The all ages event takes place on Sunday, April 27, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Rutland Rec Community Center at 134 Community Drive in Rutland. The day of “high-flying fun” will help benefit The Kids Zone at the rec center, which needs some upgrades.

Don’t let the name throw you off. Director Jeff Hull says “Urinetown” is the most popular musical you’ve never heard of. The Paramount Players are bringing something new to the stage with the Tony Award-winning “Urinetown: The Musical,” at 7 p.m. Friday, April 11, and 1 and 7 p.m. Saturday, April 12, at Rutland’s Paramount Theatre. “People don’t really know what it’s about until they see it and then it’s one of (their) favorite musicals,” Hull said.
