1 INTRODUCTION Foodborne illness is a significant public health issue worldwide, with an estimated 600 million cases reported annually, resulting in 420,000 deaths globally each year (WHO, 2022). In recent years, foodborne diseases have been associated with the emergence of antibacterial-resistant pathogens, posing an added challenge and paving the way for humankind to enter into an anticipated postantibiotic era (Soulaimani et al., 2021).
