74 An airman who endured a long battle with physical and mental conditions from traumatic brain injury is grateful for the efforts of his Military Health System healthcare team whom he says saved his life. He’s now running 100 miles a week, taking part in marathons, and remains on active duty with the U.S. Air Force. Often called the hidden disease of recent battlefields, any TBI can bring on balance, vision, and hearing injuries, which can be very difficult to detect and diagnose.

74 Dear Doc: My husband lost an arm in Iraq, and I’m his full-time caregiver. He’s fully recovered, and we’re grateful to the staff at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth for his excellent care. But we’re back at our duty station now, and I want to keep up with the latest information on care for amputees. During one of his recent doctor visits, another wounded warrior mentioned the EACE. I’ve never heard of it, so I’d like to find out how EACE could help improve my husband’s life.

Yorktown, Va. (March 20, 2024) Various freshly cut fruits and vegetable items are pictured on the cold serving line at Naval Weapons Station (NWS) Yorktown’s award winning Scudder Hall Galley. Throughout the self-serve areas are clearly marked nutrition cards as part of the Go-Green Program. The program is a Department of Defense-wide program which the Navy started to implement in 2016 and continues to expand the options of fresh food items each quarter. 1 Health.mil sat down with Dr. Marc Alaric Franzos, a cardiologist at the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, Maryland, to explain what’s the best diet to eat overall and what foods warfighters should focus on to stay fit for the fight. Franzos is a retired U.S. Navy captain who flew P3 Orions early in his career. He became a U.S. Navy physician and a flight surgeon and ultimately specialized in cardiovascular disease and internal medicine.
