    The last month has shown the great potential in South African sport, and it is the responsibility of the various federations to nurture that talent. One of Nelson Mandela’s most quoted phrases is about how sport has the power to change the world. And lest we forget, it was in the midst of the victorious 1995 Rugby World Cup that Archbishop Desmond Tutu’s idea of South Africa as a ‘rainbow nation’ became part of our cultural identity.

    South Africa’s sports bosses have learnt a lesson over the years. They no longer give us a medal prediction ahead of the Olympics. South Africa won 10 medals in Rio in 2016, and 6 in Athens (2004) and London (2012), which are our best hauls in the Olympic Games post-isolation. But in between, there have been some serious disappointments. In Beijing in 2008, Khotso Mokoena won our lone medal on the last day, a silver in the long jump.

And next year the country will have to submit its latest Nationally Determined Contribution targets to the United Nations, part of the responsibility of being a signatory to the Paris Climate Change Agreement.

I have a questions to SA conservatives/supporters of Trump. He attacks or fires all critics. And he’s replacing career civil servants with loyalists. In SA we call that cadre deployment. Why is that ok in the US, but not here? #justasking
