A Sunshine Coast motorist possibly drove for hours with a venomous snake slithering around in her car. Snake catcher Dan Busstra, alias Snake Catcher Dan, was called to remove the red-bellied black from the woman’s parked vehicle at Palmwoods last week. “She gave me a call. She was about to get in the car and her friend looked down and saw the snake underneath the seat,” he said. “They weren’t sure what it was.

The boss of a popular seafood business that was forced to shut during a power outage has queried a six-figure electricity bill increase when there is no guarantee of supply. Mooloolaba Fisheries and the Fisheries on the Spit were forced to close for the rest of the day after the power went off about 2pm last Thursday. General manager Paul Schenk said the business was paying $100,000 a year more for electricity this year under a new, three-year contract but could not rely on the power supply.

The Sunshine Coast Council has pressed the pause button on a library and community venue proposed for an area of ongoing growth. The Sippy Downs library and community space had been allocated $5 million in the Sunshine Coast Council’s 2024-25 budget but that funding has been deferred as the council tries to maintain its cash balance.

The developer of a proposed 13-storey hotel and mixed-used development on the Sunshine Coast is moving into position to make use of a pre-Olympic temporary height relaxation. An application by Felix Capital to build 153 units plus restaurants, a function room and nine residential units on a site on Ocean Street, Maroochydore, has been put on hold pending ministerial approval of a Temporary Local Planning Instrument.

A Sunshine Coast craft brewer combining its beer with food has opened in a third location. The Moffat Beach Brewing Co has pulled off a trifecta in the Caloundra area with the opening of The Esplanade Ale House and adjoining takeaway at Bulcock Beach. The Esplanade set-up adds to Moffat Beach Brewing Co’s original brewpub-cafe at Moffat Beach and a production house and tap room at Caloundra West.
