With experts predicting the Bank of Canada may lower its interest rates today amid economic uncertainty, it turns out that the bank is leaving its key lending rate alone for now. In an April 16 announcement, Governor Tiff Macklem shared the rate would stay put at 2.75 per cent. It’s the first time the rate went unchanged since March 2024. Macklem shared his thoughts on why the status quo was necessary during an online news conference.

KAYAK.com is a searchable website for airline flights, hotels, rental cars and vacation packages. “According to KAYAK data, we are seeing an increase in rental car search interest (+135 per cent compared to last month),” company spokesperson Sarah Kennedy told Metroland Media.
