A hockey player has been suspended after shoving a referee while on the ice, sending the official sliding into a wall. The push by Bridgeport Islanders forward Adam Beckman was committed during a game against the Charlotte Checkers on Saturday. The incident was captured on video, showing the events unfold from a distance. Beckman can be seen skating towards the ref, apparently failing to notice the black-and-white clad arbiter.

Two young boys found sleeping out in freezing cold conditions were there by choice, investigators looking into a disturbing neighborhood saga have learned. The shocking turn in the case comes after concerns about the boys’ safety. The brothers, aged 12 and 15, began sleeping on their unscreened Detroit porch sometime in July and continued the habit as temperatures plunged below freezing, according to WJBK. Police finally visited the home on Dec. 2.

It’s said that we know more about the surface of the moon than the depths of our own ocean, and a recent video only confirmed that the dark depths can seem just as alien as things outside our own planet. The unsettling video was posted to the Minderoo-UWA Deep-Sea Research Centre’s Instagram account on Sept. 30. Scientists were exploring the Pacific Ocean’s Tonga Trench, the second-deepest in the world after the Marianas Trench, when an otherworldly creature appeared in frame.

As Christmas approached, archaeologists near the southern coast of Turkey appeared to have unearthed a sarcophagus belonging to one of the holy men the Santa Claus mythos is said to originate from. According to Turkiye Today, work at the St. Nicholas Church in Demre, Antalya, has been ongoing since 1989 in the area where the discovery was made. The apparent grave of Saint Nicholas himself was only recently found, and as of Dec. 6, work was still underway to fully uncover it.

A California sheriff has defied an administrative board’s attempt to turn her county into a “super sanctuary” for people illegally inside the United States. The 3-1 Tuesday vote from the San Diego County Board of Supervisors restricts assistance to federal immigration authorities. “Immigration enforcement is a federal responsibility, and our county will not be a tool for policies that hurt our residents,” Chairwoman Nora Vargas said, according to KNSD.
