Rio Blanco County Clerk and Recorder Shawn Luce (center) performed the official swearing-in ceremony for incumbent county commissioner Jennifer O’Hearon (left) and incoming commissioner Callie Scritchfield (right) on Tuesday before the first regular meeting of the Rio Blanco County Board of Commissioners in the new year. The two commissioners are headed to Washington, D.C. next week for the presidential inauguration and will have other meetings scheduled while they’re there.

RANGELY | The Rangely girls basketball team returned to action last Saturday following a two-week Christmas break. The Lady Panthers traveled to Hotchkiss, Colorado, to face the North Fork Miners. Their previous matchup ended in a win for Rangely, and they delivered the same result this time, defeating the Miners 65-33 in a decisive blowout. Winning by wide margins is becoming a trend this season for the Lady Panthers this season.

RANGELY | After a couple of weeks off for Christmas break, the Rangely Panthers boys basketball team returned to action last Saturday, taking on North Fork High School. The Panthers entered the game on a high note, having ended a four-game winning streak by defeating Mancos 49-34 in their last outing. They aimed to keep their momentum going against the Miners. North Fork had other plans, handing Rangely a tough 57-33 loss. The Panthers struggled throughout the game, being outscored in every quarter.

RANGELY | The Rangely Panthers high school wrestling team kicked off the new year by hosting a dual against Glenwood Springs High School on Jan. 3, 2025. Despite a strong effort, the Panthers fell to the Demons, 30-24. The dual began with Glenwood Springs’ Carlos Landeros (106 pounds) defeating Blaine Stevens of Rangely. The Panthers tied it up when Cameron Preciado (113 pounds) earned a victory over Glenwood’s Eli Cuc.

Notebooks have been having a moment recently. They’ve been around for centuries now, yes, and I don’t see them going anywhere, but they’ve been having a moment. The number of YouTube channels and videos all about notebooks, commonplacing, fountain pens, stationery, and more is staggering. Two channels I’ve come across in the last year or so, ParkNotes and Jared Hensonboth blew up after posting videos about commonplacing.
