USDA increases funding for new specialty crop program

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) reminds specialty crop producers to apply for assistance for marketing and food safety certification expenses. Specifically, USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) is providing an additional $650 million in funding for the new Marketing Assistance for Specialty Crops (MASC) program and extending the MASC application deadline to Friday, Jan. 10, 2025. Meanwhile, FSA also reminds specialty crop producers of the Jan.

In a 2022 study, Purdue University’s Agricultural and Biological Engineering Department tracked 83 cases of grain silo entrapment, including 24 fatalities. According to that study, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota and Illinois, in that order, have historically recorded the most grain entrapment cases. Officials with the Safety and Technical Rescue Association (SATRA) of Livonia, Michigan, led grain bin rescue training in Jackson County on Jan. 3-5.

What’s the name of the book and author you are recommending? The book is called “The Only One Left” by Riley Sager. It’s actually my first book of his. What made you want to pick up this book in the first place? I ran across it while I was checking books in. I was aware of the author and curious, so after my coworkers recommended him, I decided to pick up the book. After reading the summary, I felt curious and decided to give this book in particular a chance.

The Jennings County Community Foundation recently announce that the recipient of the 2025 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship for Jennings County is senior Claire Hack of Jennings County High School. Lilly Endowment Community Scholars are known for their community involvement, academic achievement, character and leadership, according to a news release from the foundation.

Trine University students were recently named to the dean’s and president’s lists for the fall 2024 term. Two students from Seymour made the dean’s list: Kaleigh Maschino (majoring in elementary education) and Wyatt McKinney (majoring in criminal justice). Two students from Seymour made the President’s List: Dillan Cooper (majoring in civil engineering) and Ragan Mathis (majoring in biology).
