Patched Head Hunter Sione Tupou has now pleaded guilty to murder and will be sentenced in August. The shooting was preceded by at least five incidents of violence between their families.

One of the most influential members of the Comancheros gang has been charged this week with allegedly importing 200kg of drugs removed by force from the Port of Tauranga. The arrest of such a senior figure in the outlaw motorcycle group comes four months after two men allegedly broke into a shipping container at the port and loaded five suitcases into their car, as previously revealed by the Herald.

Cabinet Minister Casey Costello established an expert group in February to give advice on how government agencies can work better to combat organised crime. The group’s first report says New Zealand’s drug problem is ‘overwhelming’ and the Government needs to take bold steps. Final recommendations will be made in September but ‘deficient’ information sharing between government agencies is highlighted as a problem.
