Increased risk-taking is seen in people with bipolar disorder, particularly during mania. Dysregulated dopamine via reduced dopamine transporter expression/function is proposed to contribute to mania-relevant behaviors, including risk-taking. People with mania also demonstrate altered exploratory and locomotor patterns as measured by the behavioral pattern monitor; more specifically, increased specific exploration, and decreased spatial d (measure of movement sphericity).
