With work completed far ahead of schedule, the Army Corps of Engineers has reason to celebrate their response to the Eaton fire in the city of Pasadena. According to city officials, Army Corps of Engineers has completed 124 of 125 burned structures in its Phase 2 debris removal effort, specifically in Pasdena. "Only one eligible property remains to be cleared in Pasadena," Jennifer Paige, director of planning and community development for the city, said on Tuesday, June 24.

Striving to firm up its mission and move forward with its charge, the Wilton Capital Planning Committee (WCPC) held a short meeting on Wednesday, June 18. Along with scheduling two extensive site visits in the next few weeks, the committee came to a loose agreement that it would keep its focus solely on recommending projects that would cost more than $250,000.

A date hasn’t been set, but the Board of Selectmen said on Tuesday, June 17, that it intends to hold a Special Town Meeting so Wiltonians can vote on two unresolved items. Confirming that it intends to have the town vote on a lease with Friends of Ambler Farm that is currently being worked on, the BOS also voted unanimously to let residents decide if the town should approve an ordinance amendment that would extend the wait time on the demolition of structures deemed historic.

After a tumultuous two months, the Board of Selectmen is striving to get the Police Department headquarters construction project back on track, at least in terms of accountability. While it will likely still come in over budget, completion is now scheduled for Sept. 12, and, if their Tuesday night’s (June 17) meeting is any indication, the BOS members will be paying much closer attention to the project as it winds down this summer.
