Here is the third single to be released from Bonnie “Prince” Billy’s forthcoming album “The Purple Bird”. Will Oldham has collaborated with various artists on this new collection and “Downstream” was co-written and recorded with the legendary John Anderson, who was first nominated for a GRAMMY for Best Male Country Vocal Performance all the way back in 1982. It is such a joy to see Tommy Emmanuel work his way around the fret board in “Gdansk/Tall Fiddler”. From around halfway through, his fingers really fly and it’s utterly spellbinding. Emmanuel’s strumming pattern is delightfully rhythmic and he plays with incredible precision. There’s also a lightness of touch and a musical freedom in his melody that the audience at The Sydney Opera House respond to in this live performance video.

It seems that it takes a lad from Liverpool to remind us what real country music should be like. Ringo Starr’s new album, “Look Up”, is a triumph. Produced and co-written by the legendary T Bone Burnett, it is Starr’s first country album in over 50 years, since his second solo LP, “Beaucoups of Blues”, also reflected his love of country and blues. The new collection benefits from a host of brilliant collaborators, including Molly Tuttle, Larkin Poe, Lucius, Billy Strings and Alison Krauss.

Music from The Delines is often described as cinematic: it’s moody, thought-provoking, soulful and, above all, the lyrical intent is striking. Willy Vlautin, a gifted storyteller, creates absorbing little worlds for his characters to inhabit and “The Haunting Thoughts” reflects The Delines’ immersive narrative style. Amy Boone’s weary voice rolls and flows through beautiful melodic currents while Freddie Trujillo’s soothing bass is the perfect platform for Cory Gray’s delicate, tumbling keys.
