The province and federal government have announced changes to the crop insurance program which includes the average price per acre dropping from $446 to $389. This means the average premium, which is the amount paid to keep a policy active, will decrease to $12.71.

    “The amount of carbon tax that [Saskatchewan] is withholding is a small percentage of what we’re paying, so I think for the federal government to hold back everybody’s carbon tax rebate is pretty heavy-handed.” Peterson added the savings he’ll get from having the tax lifted are more than what he was set to get in rebates.

York University’s YSpace is getting the funding and plans to use it on its new Food and Beverage Accelerator program which aims to build specialized tools and resources to combat the unique challenges faced by underrepresented groups in the consumer-packaged goods and agri-food sector.

    “It’s really good for the cattle guys, (it’ll) fill up some dugouts, fields will get some moisture… it’s priceless,” he said. While Peterson probably wasn’t losing sleep over the lack of snow, it was an issue that crept into his mind from time to time.
