The Atlanta City Council did not approve zoning changes that would have allowed the construction of data centers in Adair Park and the West End at Monday’s meeting. Legislation proposed by Councilmember Antonio Lewis sought to amend a city zoning ordinance that banned data centers within half a mile of MARTA stations and the Beltline. Lewis told WABE his intention was to allow private development to occur in the area. “My goal in my job is to make sure we see shovels in the ground,” Lewis said.

Voters in Cobb and Gwinnett counties have rejected ballot measures to expand public transportation. Both referendums proposed a 1% sales tax that would have been used to fund public transportation improvements in the counties. The ballot measures were among several local measures in metro Atlanta that were decided by voters. Three statewide measures were also decided in the 2024 election.
Georgia judge rejects GOP lawsuit trying to block counties from accepting hand-returned mail ballots

A Georgia judge on Saturday rejected a Republican lawsuit trying to block counties from opening election offices on Saturday and Sunday to let voters hand in their mail ballots in person. The lawsuit only named Fulton County, a Democratic stronghold that includes most of the city of Atlanta and is home to 11% of the state’s voters.

You only need to look at the candidates’ schedules this weekend to know where this election will likely be decided. Note that schedules can and likely will change without warning. But on Saturday, Trump is expected to make separate appearances in North Carolina with one eyebrow-raising stop in Virginia in between. No Democratic presidential candidate has carried North Carolina since Barack Obama in 2008, although it has been decided by less than 3 points in every election since.

“This measure is the latest we’ve taken to help them rebuild their livelihoods, but it will not be the last,” the governor said in a press release. “We’ll continue to work with stakeholders on all levels to direct resources and support to the hardworking Georgians devastated by this storm.”The funds were originally intended for a Capital Funds Project program led by the GSFIC. A proposal was submitted Friday to redirect $100 million to the Georgia Development Authority for disaster relief.
