Two incredible come-from-behind wins provided the exclamation points to an entertaining afternoon of top-flight action. One of the most astonishing back-from-the-dead performances we’ve seen in recent years occurred at Melbourne Uni Oval as University Blacks pulled off the seemingly impossible to steal the most unlikely of last-gasp wins from St Kevin’s.

Saturday was ‘moving day’ in Premier Men’s as some key results saw the Top 3 kick clear, while Old Scotch & Uni Blacks closed the gap on the Top 4. Old Haileybury made history (and a big statement) with their first-ever senior win at TH King Oval as they hung on against St Kevin’s to kick a game clear in third. The Bloods dominated territory in the first term (17 Inside 50s to 7) and booted the last 3 goals to lead by 15 points at the first break.

A two-game divide has opened between the Top 5 and Bottom 5 in William Buck Premier Men’s after just the second wet-weather Saturday of the season. Old Brighton have officially established themselves as the team to beat, kicking two games clear on top after comfortably dismantling Old Xaverians at Toorak Park. Xavs entered the game in second spot and confident of challenging the league-leaders, and for a quarter-and-a-bit that appeared to be the case.

Old Brighton reversed last season’s Premier Men’s Grand Final result to remain undefeated in 2025 with an emphatic win over Old Scotch at Brighton Beach Oval. The Tonners were extremely wayward early, so despite dominating general play in the opening term, actually trailed by 4 points at the first break – 0.9 to 2.1. By half-time, their lead was just 20 points despite having 20 more Inside 50s and 15 more scoring shots.

Old Haileybury continued their promising return to Premier Men’s with an impressive wire-to-wire win over University Blacks at Princes Park. The Bloods controlled the football, racking up 86 more disposals – predominantly handballs – as they shared it around and linked up effectively. Turnovers cost Blacks dearly, as they conceded 8 goals to 3, while the Bloods also found a way to repeatedly convert throw-ins into goals, slotting 4 for the afternoon.

I hope Jayson Tatum is okay hate to see him go down like that.

I hope all the young hoopers who play the point guard position and dream of going pro watch Jalen Brunson play basketball.
