AGE is only a number to TJ Reid. The Kilkenny icon turned 37 last November, but shows no sign of stopping. Derek Lyng’s oldest Cat joined the senior panel in 2007 when he was only 19, and is one of the all-time greats. Plenty of global sporting icons have continued to perform no matter how old they are. Portuguese icon is still going at 40, and his Argentine rival Lionel Messi turns 38 in June.

AUGHRIM, we finally did it — all 32 county grounds on the island of Ireland are finally ticked off the list after being stuck on 31 for an age. Wicklow’s home had eluded me for years, and I never thought the day would come. It became my Everest. But Dublin’s Leinster SFC visit to the Garden County on Sunday opened that door. The reigning hurler of the year lifted Liam MacCarthy for the second time last July, but suffered a labrum tear in that pulsating.

SHANE O'DONNELL hopes to feature for Clare this summer. The reigning hurler of the year was initially ruled out for the entire championship after suffering a labrum tear in his right shoulder in their last July. The Éire Óg man soldiered on with his club last year before going under the knife to sort the issue at the end of January. O’Donnell has been sidelined all year and is in a race against time to play any part in their Munster SHC campaign, which starts against Cork in Ennis on Sunday.
