Velocity Capital Management has invested in Unique Sports Group, a UK-based independent talent agency that represents more than 350 soccer players across the world’s top leagues, including the Premier League, the Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1. Velocity will acquire an ownership stake in USG; other terms of the deal were not disclosed. Launched in 2008, USG grew into one of the top-five globally ranked agencies, and it has recently moved into another popular sport worldwide: cricket.

Prior to Scripps’ upfront presentation at the Barclays Center on Wednesday night, Scripps Sports president Brian Lawlor said the company remains in discussion with the WNBA to extend the league’s broadcasting deal with Ion Television, a sign of how important women’s sports have become to the media company. The initial three-year deal, in which Ion pays the league $13 million annually, expires at the end of the 2025 season.
