Fire breaks out in apartment building on Chicago's Southwest Side CHICAGO (CBS) -- A fire sent flames shooting out of a third-story window in an apartment building in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood early Monday morning. The fire broke out around 1:30 a.m. in the building on the northwest corner of 63rd Street and Albany Avenue. As seen in video from the scene, the building houses storefronts on the ground floor and apartments on the upper two floors.

SOUTH HOLLAND, Ill. (CBS) -- There was more drama in Chicago's south suburbs Tuesday night, as self-proclaimed "super mayor" Tiffany Henyard clashed with colleagues over spending. At a meeting Tuesday night, the Thornton Township Board of Trustees stared straight ahead as the Henyard, the township supervisor, passionately spoke out on spending. "You guys want to just halt things here at Thornton Township, because I don't see y'all doing nothing," Henyard told the trustees.

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man was hospitalized in critical condition Friday night after being shot in the Back of the Yards neighborhood. The 23-year-old man was in a car parked in the 4600 block of South Damen Avenue when three attackers approached and took out guns, police said. The attackers fired shots at the victim, striking him in the back, police said. The victim was taken to Stroger Hospital of Cook County in critical condition.

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A Chicago nonprofit is set to hold a big back-to-school giveaway next weekend, and was working to get the word out Friday evening. On Friday night, the headquarters of Mr. Dad's Father's Club, at 32 E. 69th St. at Wabash Avenue, was filled with hundreds of backpacks filled with school supplies. The backpacks are ready to go alongside clothing and diapers. It will all be given away for free at the group's annual back-to-school bash.
