The award recognizes an individual or team whose outstanding contributions and achievements advanced the research or development accomplishments of the laboratory, group or project.

A Soldier launched Friday from American soil for the first time since 2008 to serve as mission commander on her second journey to space. Army astronaut Col. Anne McClain successfully launched into space aboard SpaceX’s 10th operational rotation mission Crew Dragon Endurance, a Falcon 9 Block 5 rocket, from NASA’s Launch Complex 39A at Kennedy Space Center for a six-month mission aboard the International Space Station during Expedition 73.

HOUSTON – Two Army officers provide expertise and leadership to NASA’s human space flight program while following their personal and professional interests. Lt. Col. Nicholas Holtz and Maj. Derrick Gough serve as space operations officers at the Army NASA detachment in Houston in support of the Army astronauts. The NASA Detachment’s mission is to provide Soldiers to serve as part of the nation’s human spaceflight program.

U.S. Space Command’s deputy commander visited Redstone Arsenal on Feb. 24 to learn about the importance of Army space capabilities for the nation’s defense. Lt. Gen. Thomas James received updates on the SMDC Technical Center’s Ronald Reagan Ballistic Missile Defense Test Site, the SPECTRE transportable platform, and other capabilities. “It is absolutely worth the time to come here because a lot of the capabilities I have known about at SMDC have matured to a level I was not tracking,” James said.

A Space and Missile Defense Command team played a behind-the-scenes role in supporting the Air Force’s Glory Trip-252, Feb. 19. An unarmed Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile launched from Vandenberg Space Force Base, California, during Air Force Global Strike Command’s operational test and impacted in a pre-established target zone roughly 4,200 miles away near SMDC’s Ronald Reagan Ballistic Missile Defense Test Site on Kwajalein Atoll in the Republic of the Marshall Islands.
