    For decades, he’s been a familiar face at Central Michigan University events, both on and off campus. But soon, the stage lights will be turned off for a final time by alumnus Keith Voeks, ‘84, who will retire this week after 34 years as the assistant director of university events. Voeks graduated from CMU in May 1984 with a bachelor’s degree in theater scenery and lighting design. In January 1985, he began his professional journey at Virginia Tech, where he worked for more than five years.

    Central Michigan University’s Grandparents U Summer Camp has become a yearly tradition for alumna Marjorie Sheppard, who graduated in 1977. This year’s camp, held June 18-20, was the 16th she has attended. Over that span, she’s had nine of her grandchildren go through it with her. “They love it!” Sheppard said. “You should hear them talk about it.

They love the class sessions.” Sheppard, her husband John, and their grandkids Molly, Jacob and Kathryn were among the 116 people who attended CMU’s 17th Annual GPU Camp.

    Central Michigan University alumni Gavin MacDonald, Nick Poli and Kevin O’Brien are lifelong friends from Alpena. All three have full-time jobs in the Grand Rapids, Michigan area, but they team up to lead a growing nonprofit called The Sunset Project in their spare time. It’s an organization committed to investing in the betterment of northeast Michigan through creative-based and mental health programs.

    CMU Alumna Monica Bradburn ’18 has a career most sports fans can only dream of. Bradburn works as a live content creator for MLB and a live social contributor for NHL. The jobs include taking photos inside Comerica Park and Little Caesars Arena during Detroit Tigers and Detroit Red Wings home games. “Every game, I photograph both teams. I take photos throughout the games and continually send those images to the league’s social team so that they can use them immediately,” Bradburn says.
