The Edmonton Oilers need one victory, or a regulation loss by the Calgary Flames, to officially clinch a playoff spot. It has been inevitable for weeks that the Oilers would make the playoffs, but tonight they can make it official, and they can do so while welcoming Stuart Skinner and Mattias Ekholm back into the lineup. Skinner hasn’t played since Mikko Rantanen slammed his knee into Skinner’s head on March 26th.

Edmonton hasn’t lost the season series to Anaheim since Connor McDavid’s rookie season in 2015-16 when they went 1-3-1. Since then, the Oilers are 19-7-3 against the Ducks, but Anaheim has won two of the first three meetings this year. The Oilers are still in the hunt for home-ice advantage, although the odds are low that they can catch LA. Still, they shouldn’t lack any motivation as Olivier Rodrigue will get his first NHL start tonight. Rodrique was drafted 62nd overall in 2018.

— If Draisaitl can’t play tomorrow, which is what we expect, the Oilers should be eligible for a roster emergency recall, because they don’t have any healthy players available to play. McDavid isn’t ready. Skinner, Ekholm, and John Klingberg are rehabbing in Edmonton. As of yesterday, it didn’t sound like Frederic would be available tomorrow. The Bakersfield Condors are in a battle for the final playoff spot with Tucson, and they play in Tuscon tomorrow and Saturday.
