This time two years ago, Alberta was the destination of choice for renewable energy investment in Canada. For years, it had consistently led the country on new additions of wind and solar, generating billions of dollars in investment and municipal tax revenues that were flowing back to local communities – all while adding new low-cost generation options to the province’s electricity grid. But no matter the industry, there’s one thing that’s always bad for investment: uncertainty.

Since 2023, Alberta’s renewable energy sector has been faced with an unprecedented level of policy and regulatory uncertainty. The most widely reported example is the sudden moratorium on new renewable project approvals that was in place from August 2023 to February 2024. However, there is now a number of other new policies and contemplated changes that directly affect the sector.

A year ago, MLB introduced a new set of metrics to Statcast that all had something in common: they attempted to quantify the characteristics of every player’s swing. For the first time, even the most casual of baseball fans could look at anyone’s bat speed, fast-swing rate, squared-up rate, number of “blasts,” and swing length.

If you’re a pessimistic fan, this season is already an abject disaster. There’s a decent amount of truth in that dour outlook, too. Milwaukee is two games below .500, six games behind the division-leading Cubs, and struggling to play competitive baseball. If you’re an optimistic fan, you might believe things can’t really get any worse from here—and there’s also truth to that. One of the biggest factors that has hamstrung this team is their litany of pitching injuries.

"you are sort of pretending that you have an emissions pricing program when probably, you really don’t" – @andrew_leach Trying to wrap my head around this all: if true, wouldn't option 1 just end up being another subsidy for oil sands CCS investment?

Alberta introduced North America’s first industrial carbon tax in 2007. Now an industry email obtained by The Narwhal lays out three options it says the government is proposing to scrap or alter the plan https://t.co/bSqgELkbuN
