    A Coventry man who killed his grandmother in the city has been jailed. Sam Croston was convicted earlier this year of murdering Pamela Croston. Police were called to a property on Everdon Road in September 2023 after the emergency pendant Pamela had been wearing was activated. When they arrived, they found Croston sitting on the ground near his grandmother, who was seriously injured. Pamela was rushed to hospital, where she died from her injuries.

    Drayton Manor Resort is celebraring 75 years of bringing joy to families in Coventry and the West Midlands. Couple George and Vera Bryan opened the Staffordshire-based attraction in April 1950. George and Vera reportedly borrowed just £6,000 to buy the land from Sir Robert Peel. Originally a family run site with simple rides, rowboats and a petting zoo it quickly became a cherished destination with the introduction of Shockwave and Stormforce 10 in the 1990s.

    A Midlands social housing provider has been fined £140,000 by the Health and Safety Executive. Stonewater Limited employed two men to work at various sites near Tanyard Farm in Coventry. Between 2018 and 2023, their roles required them to undertake ground maintenance activities, including grass cutting, hedge trimming, litter picking, and weeding. Both had used lawnmowers, leaf blowers, strimmers, and hedge cutters, which exposed them to vibration, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) said.

    Two men were captured on CCTV dumping a vanload of rubbish in Coventry. One was seen speedily reversing onto Bedlam Lane in Rowleys Green. Footage released by Coventry City Council today (April 15) shows one of the fly-tippers opening the van doors as the second reverses onto Bedlam Lane. Items seemingly fly out of the van, which then appears to speed off. But it quickly returns with the driver jumping out and throwing a large mattress and bin bags on the ground.

    A Coventry drugs gang who operated a sophisticated Midlands supply network has been jailed. Two groups transported multi-kilogram quantities of cocaine between Leicestershire and the West Midlands. Kingpin Thomas Whittle, 32, headed the Hinckley-based group and worked closely with Coventry man Simon Doherty. Both directed and organised the buying of cocaine in multi-kilogram quantities and sold the drugs in multi-ounce quantities, Leicestershire Police said.
