    Phantom Breaker: Battlegrounds Ultimate (developed by Rocket Panda Games from earlier this year) opens with a gorgeously expressive and stylistic hand-drawn cutscene that alternates between depicting its action through cute, low-fidelity chibi-esque caricatures and expressive, high-fidelity combatant characters.

    EGX (Eurogamer Expo) is an event held in the UK and Germany that uplifts independent creatives and brings people together to shine a light on games that can’t usually get the spotlight on their own. I approve of the plan, so, for those who couldn't attend, here are the games that I found most memorable from a day at EGX.

    Swansea, the character I related to the most from the game – depressingly, I suppose – foretold his decline and strove for change. In the game’s best moment, he makes it clear that after years of being a drunkard, years of stagnation, a “vision of [his] bloated body in some ditch” is what pushes him to be productive, enter the life of a blue-collar, and stagnate into capitalism instead. This May, Sunset Visitor released 1000xResist, a game about a lot.
