    An investigation is underway after a deputy fired his weapon, according to officials with the Surry County Sheriff’s Office.On Friday, just after 11 a.m., deputies said they responded to the 100 block of Alicia Lane in Mount Airy after a report of an armed man. Officials said the man, who was described as a “mental subject,” was discharging a firearm in a residential area.Upon arrival, deputies found the man, identified as a 78-year-old, who ran into a garage when he saw them.

    More details surrounding the shooting death of a fallen Greensboro police officer are surfacing. Sgt. Dale Nix of the Greensboro Police Department was shot and killed on Dec. 30, 2023, outside a Sheetz in Colfax, while trying to stop two men who were stealing beer. The autopsy, performed by a medical examiner with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, revealed that Sgt. Nix was shot several times. His death was due to a gunshot to his left arm and chest.

    Two men are facing charges after an incident at a home, according to officers with the Madison Police Department.On Monday, April 28, just before 11 p.m., officers said they responded to the 200 block of South Wilson Street after two masked men reportedly kicked the door in and fired a shot into a residence.Witnesses told officers that two men ran on foot, and investigators later determined they left the area in a vehicle.
